Mother's Day Caddis Hatch

Just coming off an awesome ‘Mother’s Day’ caddis hatch! I was fortunate enough to have a day off on May 7th and fished the lower Madison with Gunnar Folsom. Caddis were fluttering about and the trout were looking up! It was exhilarating to catch a few on the lime trude. There’s nothing like seeing a fish come up to a dry fly! Although I will admit, one of the trout caught himself on my fly ;). The brown girdle bug trailed with a cdc prince nymph produced the most action. It was a typical Montana spring day with patches of sun, wind, and rain. The trout didn’t seem to mind. Now, we are experiencing warmer night time lows and it looks like our area rivers are officially in ‘run off’. Our last guests of the spring season depart tomorrow and then we get rolling again mid-June. So, stay tuned for reports in a month…we are anxiously awaiting a good salmon fly hatch!
