July 12th: Summer Season Off to an Incredible Start!

We’ve had an incredible start to the summer fishing season and the news couldn’t be better…We were fortunate to have had an unusually wet and cold spring. Consequently, the hatches were put on hold and the trout didn’t get their usual opportunities to feast in June. This weather also provided some beautifully healthy bug habit. And, our water flows are in great shape! In contrast, during a hot-dry spring, hatches often come fast and furious with the trout gorging themselves (even filling up!). With our current conditions, it has prolonged the hatches and we should be set up perfectly for awesome dry fly fishing, and consistent nymph attention from the wild trout. In fact, on the Madison River we are currently experiencing various caddis hatches (even some bigger caddis that we don’t see hatching every year), the mayflies are out, as well as golden stones. On Monday, I saw the grasshoppers around the property for the first time this season ~ looks like the hopper/dropper combo will be the ticket !!
