The location and staff make this an outstanding choice for a fishing vacation. The view of the mountains from the lodge is outstanding. Food is great and the staff is as friendly as they come! Great choice of lodges bar none.

This is my 3rd year in a row at Madison Valley Ranch. The food is worthy of a fine restaurant, the atmosphere is informal and friendly, and the acommodations are clean and comfortable. The entire staff goes out of their way to make sure every need is met.

The ranch sits in a beautiful valley with surrounded by fields and mountains. Cabins are simply but tastefully furnished, and anything we needed was right there. Our front porch looked out over a field where deer came each evening to graze. The main lodge has the dining area (plenty of fresh coffee and hot tea!), space to gather for appetizers before dinner, and a fire pit. It's a very peaceful place, and there is fishing right on the property in a stocked pond and nearby creek. We caught really large trout in the pond. Kaitlin and Manu are both amazing to work with. They are outgoing and cheerful, and they make you feel right at home from the second you arrive. They're both constantly running back and forth to meet the needs of guests, but they also take the time to visit, and there's a true feeling of belonging and contentment as you spend time on the property.  There's a very special chemistry and culture at work within this group that elevates your stay at the ranch beyond just a great outdoor and fishing experience.

The staff at Madison Valley Ranch made me feel they were there just for me. The float trips were well organized and the guide was very personable. The breakfast buffets and four course dinners were delicious. I found the accommodations very comfortable. Great views in big sky country where the deer and the antelope play!

We had a week of fantastic hospitality and fishing at the Madison Valley Ranch. The entire experience, accommodations, welcoming and gracious staff, food and fishing all exceeded my expectations. The guides were experienced, knowledgeable, and provided the right balance of coaching and silence, plus they put us on really nice fish every day! I have been trout fishing in this area of Montana for over 15 years. This trip was my first staying and fishing out of MVR and by far the best experience that I have had, and hope to return again soon!

My sons and I had never fly fished and we decided to come here for a boy's weekend. It was fantastic! The staff and guides very very patient and were very good instructors. The Ranch is very comfortable, and the food was unbelievable. It is a great location, convenient to get to, and fantastic staff. I would recommend for anybody -- beginners, experienced, families.
They even arranged a horseback ride for us th day we arrived. I'd recommend Madison Valley Ranch to everybody.

This is the best fishing lodge I have ever visited, including lodges in Alaska and Argentina.

We started coming to MVR in 2005 and just can't seem to stop! The experience has never been anything short of perfect and this year was no exception. Fishing on the Madison and surrounding waters is always amazing and we love that we can alternate between float and wade fishing for a variety of experiences. Manu and Kaitlin truly go out of their way to make you feel welcome and to meet your needs while you are there and are so welcoming. They get excited right along with you as you fill them in on the day's fishing each night! The views all around the lodge are spectacular and there is even fishing within walking distance just behind the lodge should you have enough energy at the start or end of the day to sneak a little extra time in on the water! Matthew never disappoints at mealtime and every meal is both delicious and beautiful and the variety of dishes is endless. We hope to be back for trip #9 in the very near future!

What a great time! Fishing, Food and Fun!! This was my first visit and I loved it. I could not have enjoyed it more. Everything met or exceeded expectations. The people are all fantastic and helped make the trip even more enjoyable!

Spent three days fishing the Madison River and our guides worked hard to make sure we had a great trip and lots of fun. After fishing, we'd come back to the lodge where the friendly staff tried their hardest to make sure we enjoyed our stay and had everything we needed. Great surroundings, accommodations and people. They do a wonderful job at Madison Valley Ranch!

This was my second visit to MVR and it was wonderful from the moment I arrived. The staff is so friendly and willing to do anything to help. The food was delicious and the other guests were great fun.

For the 4th year in a row, my husband and I had a wonderful fishing experience on the Madison River. The staff, guides, FOOD and atmosphere at Madison Valley Ranch are fabulous and our time there was very special. Every year we make great friends, fish 'till we drop, eat like there's no tomorrow and to improve our fishing skills with the help of the patient and friendly guides. We've already booked for next year!

We went for a weekend getaway and really enjoyed the quiet and relaxed atmosphere. The guide we were set up for the two days was wonderful and very knowledgable. We caught a lot of beautiful and nice size fish both days. The accommodations at the Ranch were relaxing, lovely and perfect. Great food and wine. We loved sitting on our deck watching the wildlife appear each evening.

This June was our third trip to MVR and we loved it as much as before! We couldn't ask for a better place to stay. Good food, good service, good accommodations, and good fishing. We've never felt more welcome anywhere. The staff and owners go out of their way to make sure all is well.

I am experienced angler and was looking for a lodge that would get my family hooked on fly fishing in Montana. Madison Valley Ranch was the perfect Venue. The fishing is phenomenal and offers daily guided float trips as well as onsite free lane opportunities. The guides are amazing and very patient with kids and beginners. The lodge is very friendly and well run and the food is amazing! Ennis is very hospitable and easy to reach from Bozeman. Overall an amazing visit! We will be back...My kids and wife are hooked!

This was our fifth fly fishing trip to MVR. The entire experience was exceptional. The location of the lodge is situated just a short walk to the channels section of the Madison River. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. Kaitlin, Manu and chef Matt make you feel at home from the minute you arrive through your entire stay. The food is always creative and well prepared. The guides are all very experienced and knowledgable. The addition of the new free standing fly fishing shop is a big plus. The fishing was as in previous years exceptional. Can't wait to visit next summer.

Just made my second trip to Madison Valley Ranch. While there are a lot of great fishing destinations, to me what makes an experience truly exceptional are the people -- the staff, guides, chef. MVR gets great marks in all of these areas. Beautiful place, with great fishing and great people.

My father and I visited Madison Valley Ranch for a long Father's Day weekend, and it was the perfect trip. Truly. I cannot say enough about our experience; it was absolutely fantastic. The lodge, fishing, meals etc. were all wonderful. But it was the amazing staff that truly put this trip over the top. Kaitlin, Manu, Matt, as well as the guides, all go out of their way to ensure that you have the fishing experience of a lifetime. What a treat to visit such a fantastic lodge in such a fantastic setting and then be made to feel at every moment that you are not just a customer, you are among good friends. The perfect trip.

We visited Madison Valley Ranch as a celebration for our son's college graduation. We picked Madison Valley based on it's ORVIS endorsement and Lodge of the Year Rating. It did not disappoint. Everything was first class: The guides, the staff, the accommodations, the food....everything! The staff create a warm, welcoming atmosphere. After dinner, we were able to continue fishing in the pond for trophy Kamloops Rainbows. There is also easy access to fishing the Channel section of the Madison on a transition day or evening. The Ranch has a new on site fly shop with Orvis rods to use in the pond and plenty of local flies. We enjoyed our entire stay and recommend Madison Valley without reservation.

As soon as we pulled in an Kaitlin the lodge manager came out to greet us I knew we would be in for fantastic 3 days of fishing and great memories. The lodge itself is set in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains, wildlife and great fishing. Our accomadations were fantastic we stayed in one of the duplexes by the hot tub. Yes I said hot tub which was great to relax in after a long day of fishing and fantastic meals. You will wake up after a relaxing night to Manu filling your coffe cup greeting you in the lodge ready to send you on your way to a fantastic day of fishing after a great breakfast. Matt the chef will not disappoint to the great breakfast made by Anthony in the morning to Matts creations in the evening to his appetizers, then on to a wonderful 4 course meal. Each dish created to perfection. Oh and don't forget lunch on the river that your guide will provide. You will not leave hungry. We met some fun fantastic people from all over sharing our fish stories of the day always talking about the one that got away. If you want fantastic fishing top notch accomadations and a staff at a lodge that would do anything to make your stay more enjoyable stay at the Madison Valley Lodge. Thank you Kaitlin,Manu, Matt and the rest of the crew for a trip that my husband and I will always treasure .

Great experience from beginning to end. All staff cheerful, happy and so eager to please (and very successful in doing so!!!). Great food, comfortable surroundings, slept like a baby. Activities planned well and I always felt relaxed. Caught beautiful rainbow from the time we arrived until we had to depart.

A friend and I stayed at MVR in May 2016 and could not have been more pleased with all aspects of our visit. The staff, guides, food, and other amenities were first class and we were treated more as friends that came to visit than guests. Would highly recommend MVR for anyone wanting to catch great trout, see beautiful Montana, and be treated to outstanding hospitality.

A neighbor and I spent 4 days fishing on the Madison River recently. We stayed at the MadisonValley Ranch and had a fantastic experience. The Lodge personnel go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and a member of their family. The accommodations were very good and the meals were top shelf. Certainly on par with a white table cloth restaurant. The fishing guides were knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. overall, a first rate experience.

Just made my second trip to Madison Valley Ranch. While there are a lot of great fishing destinations, to me what makes an experience truly exceptional are the people -- the staff, guides, chef. MVR gets great marks in all of these areas. Beautiful place, with great fishing and great people.

I visited for my third time but this time I included my entire family: wife, daughter and two sons. Everyone had a wonderful time from the first greeting from Elizabeth upon arrival, to the last minute fishing in the pond before we departed. The food was wonderful, the fishing was plentiful and you can’t say enough about the views and relaxing atmosphere of the Ranch. Elizabeth and Scott have a fantastic staff that really knows how to make you feel comfortable while you enjoy all that the Ranch has to offer. My real joy came from listening to my family each night sharing their stories of the day and showing pictures of what they caught.

Thanks again to Elizabeth, Scott, their staff and of course the wonderful guides that made catching trout seem easy.

Where to begin, thankfully there isn’t a ‘maximum character limit’ or I’d be unable to condense my feedback. From initial greeting, to the daily greetings and the unfortunate goodbye…Elizabeth, Scott, Kaitlin, Matt, and the Madison Valley Ranch Team were phenomenal hosts!! Elizabeth was literally seen running across the property just to welcome us as we arrived and before the car doors opened…I knew we were in for a quality experience right then.

We felt at home from the get go. We got our lines wet in the pond the first evening just to get our arms loose for the actual fly fishing experience that would ensue; make sure the large trout don’t pull you in. We then got a touch of the experience to follow while attending the evening appetizer hour then above exceptional dinner prepared by executive chef, Scott. The other guests were part of the overall positive experience. To say the least, the service during our stay was outstanding! Greetings, smiles and attentive service to address any and all needs was provided. My goodness the food was so good.

Oh yeah, we went fishing too. Our guide, David Evans, understood the local waters, the proper flies to use and how to navigate the waters on our float trip to position us well into each fishing hole. He went above and beyond to provide exceptional service. Dave also was savvy on using the proper flies and rig setup to ensure a great presentation for the fish. His instructional lessons on various aspects of fly fishing were a testament to his knowledge on the subject. Well done, Dave! We caught over 70 trout in three days and dubbed our experience the “All Day Long” fishing trip. It was amazing. Did I mentioned how AWESOME the entire staff was? You get the point by now.

The setting was gorgeous. We were treated to many natural beauties along the way and Montana wildlife – moose, deer, antelope, bald & golden eagles, geese, fish and more. The only thing that would have made the experience better was seeing a grizzly bear, but I’m okay not having seen one this time around, at least not up front and personal. When we return to Montana for a fly fish guide & lodge trip adventure again, hands down, Madison Valley Ranch lodge will be our choice!!! Thank you for ensuring my Dad and I shared memories to last a lifetime!

Orvis Lodge of the year 2015, a well-deserved award. This was our fourth trip to the MVR. When we arrived we were treated like family. We were enthusiastically greeted by Elizabeth, the lodge manager. She helped us with our luggage to our room, the Big Hole. It was very charming, clean and comfortable. The dishes prepared for meals by chef Scott and sous chef Matt were always very creative and very well presented from appetizers through desserts. Eye candy indeed. We always enjoy chatting with fellow guests about the days fishing at the cocktail hour prior to dinner. Our guides were hard working, knowledgeable, and very personable. We have requested these two fantastic men every year we go to MVR. We caught all sizes of fish indicating a healthy Madison River. We were treated to an amazing full moon rise over the mountain range one evening, an amazing photo opportunity! We can’t wait for 2016 and a 5th trip to MVR. Great job owners and staff!

My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary here…and it was an amazing experience. The food…incomparable! The breakfast every morning (best bacon ever) set the course for the day. Lunch on the river is soo Montana…and dinner with our new ranch “family” was always a highlight (because of the great company and outstanding dishes!). I, as a completely inexperienced fisherwoman, was totally at ease out on the river. The ranch had absolutely everything we needed and our guide took great care of us (and had unlimited patience with me). My husband has been to Madison Valley Ranch several times…I might not let him go without me again!

The old saying “you can’t go home again” proves false when visiting the Madison Valley Ranch. My wife and I stayed there this past June after an absolutely wonderful visit in October, 2014. Our June visit was just as wonderful, made even better by the long Montana evenings that allow the amazing MVR happy hour to be held outside on the lodge porch.

The first-class selection of warm appetizers and free-flowing wines are an excellent preview of the gourmet meals. At every dinner either Elizabeth or Kaitlin sit in at one of the dining tables, a real treat for the guests. If anything, dinners were even better than our first visit. As aside note, portion sizes are perfect.

We stayed in a different unit from our earlier visit and the room was very plush as well as quiet. No matter which room you stay in, it will be comfortable. Every need is attended to at MVR including waders so you can travel lighter.

The guides at MVR really put out effort for their clients. All gear is available if you do not have rods, etc. MVR provides a sandwich menu every evening at dinner for guests to choose their next day stream lunch. Really a nice touch to have that kind of choice.

We have stayed at Western fly fishing lodges since 1990 and none has ever surpassed Madison Valley Lodge. From personal experience I know choosing a lodge can be anxiety provoking. Most of us only get one trip per year. Do yourself a favor – don’t sweat this decision, just go to MVR!

Our experience at Madison Valley Ranch was incredible. Elizabeth and her crew at MVR provided an all-around first class experience. The fishing was great and the service outstanding. There was no need to bring any equipment – The Orvis rod & reel were perfect. The location of the MVR made it easy to get to but felt very remote.

As I sit here in my blue suit in the office, my head is still on the Madison watching that dry fly drift.  Amazing what a few days on a river does for the soul.  Wish to thank you and your staff for a wonderful few days.  I cannot think of any way you can improve your program.  The lodge/service is excellent, guides’ knowledgeable and overall Montana experience breathtaking.

Wow !!! What a fantastic two days of fly fishing.  This was only my fifth time in my life that I went fishing.  We were met by one most charming and vibrant host, Elizabeth.  There aren’t any superlatives to describe her gift of charm, enthusiasm and endless energy.  I’d come back just to chat with Elizabeth.

Our fishing guide, Bill, was understanding and very patient with a beginner like me.  Poor fellow!  I don’t know how many times that he had to untangle my line, replace lost flies and retrieve snagged line.  He was in the water up to his crotch more times than I caught fish (my buddy is a good fly fisher, thank God for Bill).  Bill is also a good conversationalist.

The evening dinners were prepared for the “gourmand” and the tastes of the soups and the main courses were exquisite.  I had never expected to experience gourmet food at a fishing lodge.

Thank you for a wonderful adventure.  I truly enjoyed every minute of my stay at the Madison Valley Ranch.

Though I have returned in body to my home, my thoughts are still at the Madison Valley Ranch. What a wonderful time it was. The beauty and grandeur of the landscape, the hospitality and genuine care the lodge staff offered, the FOOD — all so nice. The fishing guides know their stuff. I highly recommend the Ranch without hesitation.

My Mom sent my Dad and I to MVR to celebrate my Dad’s 80th Birthday. It’s hard to imagine a better experience. From our first contact with Elizabeth and Kaitlin, setting up this trip, to the sad moment when we had to leave, we were overwhelmed by the staff’s genuine and enthusiastic love of this place, and their keen desire to ensure that our experience would be a standout lasting memory. Scott and Matt consistently delivered fabulous food fit for a 5-star restaurant – they presented interesting, complex dishes, perfectly prepared, and beautifully presented. What a great way to start and end a day of fabulous fishing! Speaking of the fishing, the excellent, experienced guides added much to our 5 night / 4 day Madison River fishing experience. We also appreciated not having to travel with our waders, etc. – as MVR provided excellent Orvis rods, reels, and waders as part of the package. Along those same lines, we appreciated the comfy, well-appointed guest room, and all the little thoughtful “extras” that also were “just part of the package” – from sunscreen, to snacks, to an after-fishing beer…. If you are looking for top notch fly fishing adventure, made easy by excellent service and accommodations, MVR is the place for you!
